Telpugova Irina

Honored Artist of Russia

Irina Viktorovna Telpugova, Honored Artist of Russia, was born on October 9, 1959. After graduation from Lunacharsky State Institute for Theatre Arts (today known as the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts - GITIS) course of M.O.Knebel, she was invited to join the Maly Theatre’s company. Since the very first days of work on Moscow’s oldest drama stage, Irina managed to create a number of distinctive and memorable characters.

Telpugova made her stage debut in Friedrich Schiller’s legendary play «Fiesco's Conspiracy at Genoa», where she played Bertha, an innocent young girl, daughter of a gloomy republican Verrina, who is seduced by Gianettino Doria the governor of Genoa. The actress created a complete and touching image, thus raising her heroine to the heights of the ancient tragedy.

For 35 years of work in the theatre Irina has played more than 20 roles. The artist's creative possibilities and talents are almost endless. She created lyrical and touching images of Elena Morozova and Chekhov's Anya. Trying to seduce the priest Charlotte Goodall is similar to Nabokov's Lolita. Irina’s little humpbacked horse is ardent and mischievous and her Nastasya Pankratyevna, a fidgety wife of the merchant-tyrant Bruskov, turned out to be surprisingly grotesque and funny.

With the uniform good taste, delicacy, imagination, impeccable taste, a special noble restraint and grace, which have eminently distinguished her professional behavior, combined with diligence and determination, - all these remarkable qualities let Irina create many memorable roles thus winning over audience.
