THE TIME OF TROUBLES IN PERSONS AND COSTUMES OF THE MALY THEATRE
Dear friends,
On World Theatre Day (WTD) which is celebrated this year on 27 March 2018, a special theatre show will take place in the Maly Theatre’s Shchepkinsky foyer. Before the evening performance of «Tsar Boris», which is the final part of the famous A.K. Tolstoy trilogy, artists of the Maly Theatre will walk down the catwalk in costumes from five theatre’s productions dedicated to the Time of Troubles.
There will be a theatrical runway show with costumes from the following productions of the Maly Theatre:
- «Dmitry the Pretender and Vasily Shuisky» by Alexander Ostrovsky, staged in 2007 by Vladimir Dragunov (costume designer – Larisa Lomakina);
- «Tsar Ivan the Terrible» by Aleksey Konstantinovich Tolstoy, directed by Vladimir Dragunov in 1995;
- «Tsar Fyodor Ioannovich» by Aleksey Konstantinovich Tolstoy, directed by Boris Ravenskikh in 1973 (costumes were created by the famous Soviet theatre designer, graphic artist, People's Artist of the RSFSR and the chief designer of the Maly Theatre from 1974 to 1999, Evgeny Ivanovich Kumankov);
- «Tsar Ivan the Terrible» by Aleksey Konstantinovich Tolstoy, staged in 1944 costume designer - Evgeny Ivanovich Kumankov).
The show will end with the presentation of costumes from «Boris Godunov» (1937), restored specially for the show.
All costumes presented within the show are the property of the Maly Theatre and the pride of its museum collection.
