HE CREATED TRUTH ON THE RUSSIAN STAGE

November 17 marked the 230th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian artist, who raised the status of the actor and standards of acting and whose name is inseparable from the Maly Theatre, Mikhail Semyonovich Shchepkin(1788 - 1863). He is often described as Russia's greatest ever character actor, "the father of realism", who fought against the artificial, declamatory style. Mikhail Shchepkin was one of those great artists, who profoundly influenced Stanislavsky and his “System”.
