The Maly Theatre’s young artists,Irina Zheryakova and Stanislav Soshnikov (a magnificent duet from «Vassa Zheleznova. The First Version», have recently taken part in a radio talk show «Dramatis Personae». The hosts of the program Vladislav Boretsky and Oksana Podriga presented their guests the following way: «The Maly Theatre is one of the oldest traditional theatres in Moscow. However, apart from venerable, renowned actors, «veterans» of the stage», the theatre’s company has a brilliant assemblage of young artists to boast of. We decided to meet with the young representatives of the Maly Theatre’s company and talk with them about living in the art. Moreover, the guests of tonight’s program star in M. Gorky’s «Vassa», whose anniversary is celebrated all over the world this year.»
Below is a piece dedicated to Maly Theatre’s production of Maxim Gorky’s drama «Vassa Zheleznova. The First Version» that was broadcast on «Euronews» channel (№35 of May 5, 2017, Portal TV program). People's Artists of Russia Vladimir Beylis and Lyudmila Titova share their experience.
We would like to offer you a recording of a program called «Details» that aired on STS-Kursk TV channel, dedicated to People's Artist of Russia Lyudmila Titova and her performance in Maxim Gorky’s play «Vassa Zheleznova. The first version».
The Maly Theatre came to Kursk within a framework of their touring program. The program is supported by «Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation», founded by Alisher Usmanov. The Maly Theatre presented to Kursk audience its production of a pre-revolutionary version of Maxim Gorky's play «Vassa Zheleznova».
During the press conference, the director of the play Vladimir Beylis remarked that the story about the division of the family’s inheritance is still relevant today. The fragile woman Vassa, brilliantly played by Lyudmila Titova, is a woman of iron will and a powerful matriarch. She runs the family business alone struggling to preserve it for her children. However she faces misunderstanding and cruelty. The title character of Vassa is one of the most difficult in the world’s dramatic art. It is not a mere coincidence that Vladimir Beylis chose this classical work – he studied with Yuri Bure and decided to present this gift to the citizens of Kursk.
Lyudmila Titova, People's Artist of Russia: «When people come to the box office they generally ask for something light and cheerful, as supposedly it's very hard to live nowadays. In fact, this is not true. I actually heard that a lot of playgoers after seeing Vassa, quite the opposite, leave with a sense of light, purification. And, the task of the theatre, of art is to induce catharsis, after which something new opens up in you. On the contrary, the glimpse of light and hope and the desire to live.»
