Maly Theatre followed this recommendation and put the characters of the timeless Beaumarchais’s comedy back on the stage. It turned out that from the 21st century Figaro and the company look unusual sometimes. “It’s hard to find in this play something new, as it was staged in the theatre very often and has acquired a predetermination, – says the performance director Vladimir Dragunov. – We aimed to show “The Marriage of Figaro” from an entirely different angle, not as just a hilarious comedy. It seems to me that Beaumarchais urged to this idea in the preface to the play. Our goal was to look at the play seriously and also not to lose sparkling humor of the author. The main theme of the performance is still search of happiness and love, because love is the most important thing in life. If it is worth to risk, to overcome obstacles and to go against the powerful of this world it can only be in the name of love".
