Yuri Solomin, People's Artist of the USSR, Artistic Director of the Maly State Academic Theatre of Russia:
«I took a walk to one of the old houses. I have no idea, what’s over there now, but I do remember there was a railway club. My father used to work there. We went further, where the Criminal Investigation Division is located, and if I’m not mistaken, and there was a house that was called the actors’ house. It is a corner house, then there is a garden, and behind the garden it was our house. We had a room in a communal flat. That I remember. Oh, that’s the house, but it is renovated. It used to have different windows. How did I recognize it? There is a basement. Vitaliy was born there, and in 1941 me and my father took him from the hospital. I remember how I went to school in 1943, school number 4, on the right...» - Are you a Muscovite or native of Chita? – «You know, I'm not a Muscovite that is for sure. My whole family is not from Moscow, but we have been living there for more than half a century, so I do love. Yet again, I love the old Moscow. I studied at Shchepkin Theatrical School, when I came to Moscow... It is the oldest theatre school in Russia. It is over 200 years old. The greatest professors, artists and directors of the past used to teach there. It is hardly possible to forget them, as they lay the groundwork of wisdom and knowledge.»

In 1988 Yuri Solomin was elected Artistic Director of the Maly Theatre by his fellow actors. And since then the theatre has become his lifelong love
