MINISTER OF CULTURE VLADIMIR MEDINSKY INVITED VLADIMIR PUTIN TO THE OPENING CEREMONY AT MALY THEATRE

Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky invited President of Russia Vladimir Putin to the opening ceremony at Maly Theatre and to the opening of the second stage of the Moscow Philharmonic Society.

«Mr President, if I may, I would like to hand you a letter from People’s Artist of the USSR Yury Solomin inviting you to the opening ceremony at Maly Theatre after renovations. This is what Maly will look like. I will not say anything. Better to see for yourself.» - said Vladimir Medinsky during a working meeting with the President.

« At the end of November?» - inquired Vladimir Putin, to which the Minister replied affirmatively.

Earlier Vladimir Medinsky noted that the theater will open its doors to the public after renovation this year, a year and a half ahead of schedule. This year Maly Theatre celebrates its 260th anniversary. Renovation of the main building of the Maly Theatre has started in 2012 under federal targeted investment program. The renovation works are carried out with due regard for the preservation of the historical appearance of this XIXth century architectural monument, one of the oldest in Moscow.

During the meeting Vladimir Medinsky also reported to the president that the department is trying to attract business in order to carry out cultural projects, e.g. in Kogalym, where a private company is building an affiliate of the Maly Theatre.
